Hiking Trail: Thunderbird Recreation Area, north of the 101 on 67th and 59th Avenue, is a "nice urban hiking trail system with plenty of parking." There are "several trails to choose from which allows you to find one for your fitness level."

 

City Park: Rio Vista Park, one freeway exit south of the stadium on Thunderbird Road, has so many amenities (including a skate park, fishing ponds, and playgrounds) that one reviewer writes, "This place is like Disneyland! It has everything!" 

 

Dog Park: Foothills Park, on 59th Avenue and Union Hills Drive, boasts a dog park, skate park, and more.

 

Place to learn about Native American culture: Deer Valley Rock Art Center, north of the 101 off 35th Avenue, offers an excellent visitors center and then a "very easy trail taking you to the petroglyphs."

 

Place to learn about Old Arizona: Sahuaro Ranch Park Historic Area, south of Peoria Avenue on 59th Avenue, preserves an old ranch, combined with a city park that boasts a large playground, picnic areas, and more.

 

Mexican Food: La Purisima, on 47th Avenue and Glendale, has authentic (and delicious) pastries (pan dulce, conchas, y mas), tamales, and more.
